The Historic Collection creates each reissue guitar with incredible accuracy. Through extensive research, of countless original samples, Gibson has chosen the most significant elements that best exemplify the look, feel, color, spirit and sound of the quintessential vintage guitar and applied these elements to the Historic Collection.

It is an on going practice to more closely replicate every detail, and in keeping with tradition, variances in color, grain, and naturally occurring flaws in the wood are still present and accepted today, just as they have been through the years.

Gibson Custom Shop Ace Frehley Budokan Les Paul Custom Aged

In 1977, Ace Frehley, along with Mega-Band Kiss, was riding the meteoric wave of the world’s first hard rock, pop super group/marketing machine. Unlike anything the world had seen before, Kiss had taken music and performance into the main stream with a commercialized yet somehow authentic brand of Rock and Roll that changed the landscape of both music and live performance. Taking the stage in Budokan Hall, Japan along with his customized, three pickup Les Paul Custom, Ace Frehley was becoming one of the few rare and critically important influencers that defined the direction of Rock and Roll and inspired legions of dreamers to pick up the guitar. In celebration of Ace’s legendary status as a rock icon, and the specific moment in time that solidified the same, Gibson Custom is proud to announce the release of the Ace Frehley “Budokan” Les Paul Custom. Here are the details: A limited run of 100 aged versions will be built, Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, 3 piece Maple top, 70’s style “pancake” body, Ebony fingerboard with the Pearl block inlays on a 3 piece Mahogany neck, 1974 Ace Frehley neck profile, 2 Dimarzio PAF and 1 Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups with only the bridge pickup wired like the original, With the certificate and hardshell case
