This is a limited run of 10 guitars (6 in Double Stained Vintage Yellow and 4 in Double Stained Dark Cherry Sunburst). They have a stop tailpiece with a tuneomatic bridge, 3 way switch, Kluson tuners, solid bird inlays, Zebra coil 59-09 pickups, Certificate and Artist case. The headstock logo is hand signed by Paul (like the old Signature series). Best of all these are being built from Paul's private stock of wood that he has been building up over the last 20 years. We (Paul Reed Smith, Jeff DePetro, Brian Wachter & I) selected the 10 incredible flamed maple tops and Brazilian Rosewood fingerboards that were used on these guitars. The quality of the wood is well above an Artist Grade and most of the tops Paul thought met Private Stock requirements!

We are basing this off of some that he built in the early 90's with a stop tailpiece and tuneomatic bridge. These have the sweet switch, solid bird inlays, hand signed headstock logo (like the old Signature series), Ebony tuner buttons, Zebra coil 59-09 pickups, Certificate and Artist case. Best of all these are being built from Paul's private stock of wood that he has been building up over the last 20 years. PRS Guitars is proud to announce a limited release of 100 Golden Eagle guitars modeled upon the very first maple top guitar Paul Smith ever built. This historic PRS instrument became Howard Leese's number one guitar for more than 15 years. And oddly enough, the maple top for this guitar actually came from a dresser drawer given to Paul by a friend. Howard and his guitar were recently featured on the cover of Vintage Guitar magazine, and the guitar itself was on display at NAMM. The limited run of Golden Eagle guitars are being built by the Private Stock team and each will have its own private stock number. Authentic features include an East Coast curly maple top with a filled in drawer hole like the original, a Santana type body shape modified like Howard's, old style mother of pearl birds with modified wings, Vintage Yellow/Amber stain that matches Howards guitar, high gloss nitro finish and a pre-factory Santana headstock shape among other details that carefully make this guitar a classic reproduction of the original. The case is even modeled after Howard’s case...a green flight case with a purple lining.
